This is the Golden Pavilion in Japan. It was a guest house constructed by the third(?) Shogun. To show off his power and wealth, the Shogun had the guest house plated completely with 4x4 inch squares of gold leaf. And not just once; twice! It was a glorious sight to behold as the sun was coming over the hills and shining on this beautiful guest house resting on the water!
