I was out hiking with my family and just happened to see the sun shine through this little hole in a rotten tree stump. It took a few minutes of awkward positioning to catch the light in just the right way

Inspiration

My husband loves the original Ansel Adams black and white photo from 1940s. I wanted to recreate the shot.

I adjusted the contrast and brightness.

In my camera bag

I typically use my Nikon for landscapes but on this trip my battery was running low.
