The original Castle Deudraeth built c1175 which was on an escarpment overlooking Portmeirion has long since fallen into ruins. Bron Eryri, a cottage was present on this site in the 18th Century. This was aquired by a rich landowner and converted in the 1840's to a castellated mansion which he called Castell Deudraeth after the original. In 1999 funding was obtained to restore this building into the present hotel called Castell Deudraeth.
