Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo at a studio in San Leandro Ca.Time
About 11amLighting
Lights behind and above behind her (3 total) and another behind me. The first 3 lights were to better illuminate the flour and her hair, the last (behind me) to illuminate her. Power was relatively low, f8, 1/160sec, ISO200.Equipment
Sony camera with a 24-105mm lens (my favorite for photographing people). Flashes as described above under lighting. No tripod or other gear (except of course the studio).Inspiration
I've always wanted to take pictures of dancers, and especially dancers with powder/snow/flour flying through the air.Editing
Little post-processing. I cropped out the strobe lights, removed non-black background images (except flour), sharpened her dress and the flour a bit. Tool used was Luminar. In my camera bag
I generally pack my bag for the event. In this case a model shoot in a studio. A camera, a few lenses, a Pocket Wizard and spare. A few cleaning items. Blank ready to use model releases, pens, gaffer tape, spare batteries, spare SD cards.Feedback
Be prepared for a long cleanup. That flour goes everywhere! Biggest mess after doing photography I've ever seen. It got everywhere. Had to clean the camera several times (and I had it in a rain-bag. I kept by camera bag in another room with a tarp over it. Still got flour all over it! I'd suggest if you do set this up that you get several others to shoot over a day or two and then have everyone help clean up the mess. Two months later I'm still finding flour in unexpected places.
