Location
This photo was taken at a wildlife preserve in Florida. The preserve was Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. I frequent these types of location to do my bird and animal photography.Time
If I recall it was around 10:30am. The preserve was about a 50 mile drive from my home in The Villages, Florida. This bald eagle had been injured and will never be released back into the wild. Most of the residents of the preserve have a similar situation. They are cared for very well.Lighting
The natural light was very good for the photo. The light was streaming in from my left as you can see in the photo. I shot at a lower f stop to blur and soften the background.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D5100 using a Nikon DX AF-S 55-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 GED. It was handheld and no flash.Inspiration
I thought I wanted to do Macro or closeup when I first start to shoot after retiring at 69. Before that I shot a lot of family and vacations. I took a darkroom course using black & white film.Editing
The only post-processing was some cropping. In my camera bag
At this time I have a Nikon D7200 in my bag and the D5100 as a spare. I have the following lens in my bag. The two kit lens are a Nikon DX AF-S 55-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 GED, Nikon AF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G. I also have two Tamron lens. A Tamron 16-300mm F/3.5-6.3 which I use for Macro/Closeup photography. I have a Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 DI VC USD G2. I use the G2 for bird photography.Feedback
There are a lot of wildlife preserves or state parks in Florida. I live in The Villages, Florida and there are numerous ponds and marshland that have various types of birds and of course alligators. My favorite place for bird photography is Gator Land in Orlando, Florida. They have a rookery with hundreds of birds and in spring they are breeding and you can get very close while walking a boardwalk. I have also taken bird photos while riding in a photo tram at the Circle B Bar Ranch in Land Land Florida.
