Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken down the street from where I live, at Horn Pond in Woburn, Massachusetts.

Time

It was almost midnight when I took the shot.

Lighting

I enjoy playing with peoples perceptions, especially in regards to time. Being surrounded by cities and towns, as well as being close to Boston, allows for a diminished but noticeable light. It makes for a useful tool and a great atmosphere for the night long exposures.

Equipment

It was shot with a Nikon D7000, Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6, and a Manfrotto 190XB tripod.

Inspiration

At the time this photo was captured, there had been a drought in my area for some time. While walking it at night I realized I had an opportunity to photograph sections and angles that I hadn't had the chance to before, and may not be able to again. With it being a clear night, and reasonable light pollution, it allowed for a lucid shot.

Editing

There was some cropping, as well as a bit of brightening. However very little was done as a whole to the shot.

In my camera bag

I go with my Nikon D7000 for a body. I generally shoot with a Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6, however I also carry a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 as well as a Nikon 35mm f/1.8. My tripod always comes with, as I like to experiment in long exposure shots where ever I shoot

Feedback

Always recognize your surroundings and situations, even if it's somewhere you've walked past and seen a hundred times. Each time you walk past there is a variable that could potentially make that scene or object unique. Keep an open mind, and always be willing to experiment with what you have for gear as well as environment.
