Location
This photo was taken on the beach at Scheveningen, near The Hague, in the Netherlands.Time
This was taken at 17:45.Lighting
At the beginning of November, sunset was around 5 o'clock, so this was taken about 45 min later. The sky was cloudy but with lots of blue skies among the clouds. As the lights on the pier and on the wheel were switched on, they reflected beautifully on the low tide beach.Equipment
This was done with my Canon EOS 5D mk iv and a 24-70 mm zoom lens, on a tripod. I was on the wet sand part of the beach and, with the movement of the waves, the tripod was not completely reliable, so the exposure could not be very long. By trial and error I found that 0.5 sec worked quite well, but with the low light this meant bumping the ISO up to 2000.Inspiration
This was a case on unintended consequences. The objective had been to take photos of the pier at sunset, but the sky above the setting sun was criss-crossed with the lines created by a large number of planes, so I decided to look away from the setting sun, but the light wasn't very interesting. Until the lights on the pier came on, and everything changed radically!Editing
As I photograph in Raw, I always do some post-processing. In this case, it was done in Lightroom, mostly tone changes, with very small adjustments of vibrance and clarity. In my camera bag
In my bag, I usually carry my EOS 5D mk iv and a couple of lenses, which depend on what I will be photographing. For landscapes, that will be a 16-35 and a 70-300 zoom. I did this before I got the 16-35, so at this time I carried a 24-70 zoom, zhich I now use mostly in cities. For macro photography, I also use a 100 mm Macro.Feedback
My advice is to always be open to adjust your objectives to take into account the situation you find on the ground.
