Location
I took this photo in east Texas, USA, near an old community named Homer, in Angelina County.Time
One of my favorite things to do while camping is to get up early, before everyone else and well before sunrise. I sit in the dark, drink my coffee, listen, and watch. This particular morning was nice and foggy, and very quiet. As the sun started breaking through, the lighting and color just turned into this perfect moment.Lighting
I naturally lean toward a darker, moody style of lighting and color. I did not have to do much to get the desired look that matched how I felt at the time the picture was taken, other than warm up the white balance a little.Equipment
This photo was captured with a Canon 6D, using the EF50mm f/1.4 USM.Inspiration
The magical quality of the light was impossible to pass up.Editing
This photo did not require much post processing at all, it is really close to what I saw that morning. In my camera bag
I carry 2 bodies, the 6D for landscape, historical structures, etc. This body normally has my workhorse lens, the EF24-105mm f/4L IS II. For wildlife and longer shots, I also carry the Canon 5D mkIV, with the fantastic EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM and a 1.4 extender. I also carry a nifty fifty, and a Sigma ART 20mm f1.4 for capturing the milky way or other wide, really low light shots.Feedback
The early morning light almost always produces something magical. Plan out shots when you can, but also just sit and watch, and enjoy being there. Be open to opportunities that you may not have expected.
