Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in downtown Springfield, Missouri at Gailey's a restaurant/bar just off the square in a historic building. I believe this part of the establishment used to be the cafe/counter area of an old pharmacy that was established in the 1930s.

Time

This photo was taken during a camera club field trip downtown Springfield Missouri. Most club members were taken images on the streets and store fronts. I slipped inside looking out towards the traffic and the business across the street.

Lighting

This lighting was just before the blue hour as street lights began to turn on.

Equipment

This image was a couple of years ago, hand held. My camera is a Canon 5D MK III and the lens was a Canon 17-40 f4.5

Inspiration

This was an image that would bring the memory back to sitting at a lunch/breakfast counter watch traffic flow by the window.

Editing

The only post- processing I did was turn this image into a black and white to fit the scene and mood.

In my camera bag

Most times when I go out to shoot, I will choose one lens and make do with it, as I don't like to carry around a lot of equipment. It's good to hone your photo skills by choosing one lens and then make it happen.

Feedback

I'm an old shooter from the film days, so I know the skills to use when the shutter speed may be slower than normal and I know how to make it work. I don't have the info handy to give the shooting info, but I would imagine I didn't have the ISO any faster than 400 and the shutter may have been as slow as :40. My advice is to plan ahead, and be able to adapt you the circumstances. Thank you for viewing, happy snapping.
