As we approach the end of October, we enter the All Saints Eve, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day. A time of remembrance and honor for those loved and lost. In the last 9 years, I’ve lost 10 of my close friends and family. Six in 2009. Two in 2017. Two in 2018.

The friends I’ve lost I’ve considered family. With the chaos of my blood family growing up, I emotionally withdrew from my blood family in my teens, and started making my my own family of similar orphans in my 20s. All of my losses were familial. I hold everyone close to me, dear in my heart.

This year I’ve chosen to spend remembering the lessons they taught me. To reflect upon our shared time, vitality, and heritage. To honor their lives, and pay them tribute.

The last week has not been easy. This morning I woke after sleeping for only 3 hours for the 7th night in a row. Feeling Raw. Feeling Tender. Feeling Vulnerable. After some deep breathing, some meditation, some pep talking, I pushed back my tears, and headed out to meet the world again
