I've said this all before. I have major issues with television. I repeat, I have major problems with television. Some people are baffled when they start to tell me about some dreary sit-com-drama and I bluntly tell them: "I dont watch TV". They don't know how to react...so their response is to keep telling me how great they think this show is and how I should watch it. Some of them start to panic. By saying this, I have completely invalidated their
entire planned conversation.
PANIC!

You can see it in their eyes, in the nervous quivering of their lips. Again...I don't watch television. I burned mine to the ground two years ago.

This is why.

When you adjourn yourself from the electric fire, you gradually gain perspective as your eyes adjust to the dark. With the gaining invasive nature of technology, the mental perversions of constant unengaged entertainment are no longer limited to just television. Now we have instantaneous access to every piece of whatever egregious drama we ever longed for, all from the comfort of our kitchen, our couch, our bed, our pockets. Yet, few of us have ever stopped to consider: "What are the environmental impacts of the binge?" To give you an idea, currently it's estimated that the
energy needed to run the servers and processors powering your Breaking Bads, Parks and Recs, Crunchy Rolls, and silly cat videos, is equivalent to the energy needed to power the state of New York.

Ya hear me?
That's the power needed to supply lights, ovens, pizza slices, Broadway musicals, hot wings, and Starbucks for 20 million people.
Two years ago, I began building this installation in my living room. It has been a careful balancing act of books, instruments, dirty dishes, high voltage, and the decay of time.
