Location
This photo was taken in Amsterdam, from the window of a restaurant in the upper floor of a department store.Time
It was taken at sunset (obviously I guess!!) in Late September.Lighting
This was a very spontaneous picture. It was at a self serve restaurant on an upper floor of a department store. I was carrying my tray of food back toward the table which happened to be by the window. I looked out of the window and couldn't believe the colour of the sky. I mean, it was like it was on fire.Equipment
An iPhone 5s is the equipment I used.Inspiration
With a sky like that I just had to take the picture. The single smoke stack and smoke with the factory silhouette reminded me of historical black and white pictures with the smoke coming from the factory silhouetted against the sky. Except in the this case the sky was ablaze with colour.Editing
I think I may have cropped it on the sides ever so slightly and I may have made it more horizontal but if so it would have been ever so slightly. In my camera bag
Normally I carry an Olympus OM E-M10III with a small assortment of lenses. Some of my most appreciated photos seem to have been taken with my phone when I see something that just jumps out to me as an opportunity not to be missed. Better to take the picture without the right equipment than to miss the opportunity.Feedback
Keep your eyes open to opportunities. Try to frame the picture in your head before bringing the the camera up to take the shot. Visually isolate the picture you want from the external surroundings before you bring the camera up to your eye. And use your phone if that is all you have with you.
