Behind The Lens
Location
The Lobster Shack was located in a small harbor 40 minutes by car from Bar Harbor.Time
The shot was taken in the late afternoon, around 4pm, on a rainy and cloudy dayLighting
The fact it was cloudy actually helped the lighting as there were no specular highlights to deal with on the buoys.Equipment
The camera was a Nikon D4 with the Nikkor 28 to 30omm lens. Exposure settings were ISO a 650 with f19 as an f stop and 1/40th of a second time. Were I to redo the shot I would lower the f stop to f11 and lower the iso to 400. The increased depth of field wasn't really need and sometimes over doing the f stop setting can lead to a less sharp image. The camera was on a Gitzo tripod and a ball head made by Arca Swiss so 1/40 of a second was not an issue.Inspiration
Buoys and lobster shacks just are the epitome of the Northeast Coastline. The colors and shapes just caught my attention.Editing
Processing only required a slight curves adjustment and an increase in the Vibrance slider. In my camera bag
Now either the D5 for lower light situations and the D850 for more normal lighting conditions. I own several lenses so the choice depends on the subject and the desired image,Feedback
I always try to have a camera with me and shoot whatever moves me. I discard many images which didn't work or just did not satisfy me. But quite often I am greeted with a very pleasant surprise
