Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a local air show at Caboolture, Queensland Australia.

Time

This annual show has always been popular so I remember waking early so that I could get to the airfield ahead of the crowd. This image was taken late morning.

Lighting

The lighting wAs fortunately very good as it was an overcast day for the most pard. This allows for beautiful soft light.

Equipment

I used my trusty Sony a99 camera with a 70-400 G-lens hand held. A fantastic combination for sports action or even faster fighter jets.

Inspiration

I love shooting sports action, rodeo’s, motor racing, aircraft acrobatics and v8 powerboats. In fact any gas moving action so I just had to photograph this aircraft.

Editing

I always shoot in RAW so post processing is a given. I use Adobe Lightroom Classic for all of my photography to draw out the most vivid image trying to capture the moment as I saw it with my naked eye. If I decide to create fine art from the image, I’ll also use Adobe Photoshop to add layered effects.

In my camera bag

The equipment I usually carry in my bag is at least one camera the Sony a99 is my favourite and at least 3 lenses. Which 3 will depend on the shoot. Lens cleaning equipment, filters, spare batteries and spare SD cards, a bottle of water, a few energy bars and a canvas fold up stool along with a suitable tripod. The size, weight and style of tripod will depend on wind, location and weather.

Feedback

Make sure your kit is always kept in tip top shape with freshly charged batteries, reformatted SD cards and clean lenses. Pre-planning is essential. Don’t leave the right time and right place to lick.
