Location
This photo was taken on the Isle of Sky in Schotland in a magical place that is called the Quiraing.Time
Due to limited time we arrived at this location at 11 o'clock. Usually not the best time of day for beautiful landscape photography. However, the clouds dimmed the sun somewhat and made it pretty decent light.Lighting
Is said earlier, the picture is taken at 11am with nothing but natural lighting. The clouds act as a natural soft box for the harsh sun light.Equipment
This was shot on a Sony A7r with the VT FE 24-70mm f4 ZA OSS lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
My friend and I were hiking here, I was behind a little bit because I was taking pictures so she was waiting for me on that spot, just taking in the scenery. I just could not resist to take some pictures of her taking in all the beauty. Her silhouette was just the perfect adition to the landscape. it gives a great sense of scale.Editing
I usually don't do a whole lot of post-processing. This picture is no exception, other than some tweaking of the light and colors in lightroom, nothing is altered. The biggest post-processing was bringing the harsh sky back a little bit. Since it was basically a snapshotm I did not have time to put on a gradual ND-filter or use a tripod for multiple exposers. The sky is still a little bit blown out in some places but I don't think it takes away to much from the images. In my camera bag
Since I am still a student my budget is limited and the gear I have in my bag is basically all the gear I have. I have the A7Rii with the Carl-Zeiss 24-70mm f4 always ready to go, besides that i have an old 20mm f2.8 Canon FD lens, a lightweigt Punks Billy tripod from 3 Legged Thing and a Lee Big Stopper filter and a medium gradual ND filter of 2 stops. The only thing I leave at home, when I am really trying to save weight for multy day hikes, is the Canon 20mm and the grad. ND filter.Feedback
Just get out there, plan trips to beautiful places and ;ake sure you have a couple of days to scout the location, wait for better weather,.. The best tip I can give is: go hiking. It may seem simple, and it is, but it takes you places you normally would not go and usually with a lot less people.
