Behind The Lens

Location

Sitting on an isolated beach in the Galápagos Islands, I enjoyed the afternoon among sea lions of all sizes and behaviors. While I sat on the warm beach sand a sea lion walked up beside me, laid down and promptly fell asleep. I could not resist taking a shot of the seal as he slept and snored beside me.

Time

It was early afternoon, after hour of hiking around the island I found this beautiful cove with warm sand and many sea lions to help enjoy the experience.

Lighting

I have always been a minimalist as far as camera accessories go. I tend not to use flashes or any other lighting. I believe it beat to let nature show us the world with it’s own abilities.

Equipment

I use a Nikon 850, typically with one lens I decide to use during that day. I enjoy being a minimalist as far as equipment and technique goes. I rarely use a flash or other equipment. I never use a tripod and enjoy being able to take the shot purely handheld and not posed. I also use no other lighting sources nor do I edit my photos other than an occasional cropping.

Inspiration

Nature inspired me to take this shot, as it always does. The best experiences and opportunities are when you allow yourself to sit with wildlife and slow then to show themselves.

Editing

I rarely o any processing tmother than occasional cropping of some photos

In my camera bag

I most time carry no bag- just my camera with a lens on it and head out to the wilderness.

Feedback

Only advise I have is to let nature come to you- personally, there is nothing better than to hike somewhere and sit and wait- with patience, wildlife will come to you and hopefully you can get that shot. I Eli we the less harm we can cause, the better. That goes with wildlife- it is better to sit and wait till they come to you rather than chase wildlife- and by sitting, all the nature revels itself
