Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of my granddaughter in my apartment with her standing by the window. She loves my homemade banana bread and I had just baked some for her. I told her if she would quickly smell the rose for me she could have her banana bread! Her big, beautiful blue eyes are turned towards the kitchen where her treat awaits! As a side note, her dad ( my son) is a firefighter and teaches special ropes classes to other firefighters; he braided her hair.??

Time

Time of day was late morning, almost mid-day.

Lighting

Natural window light only, my favorite.

Equipment

Handheld Fuji XT2 with a 2.8 f stop lens but can’t remember which one now!

Inspiration

What can I say? She is the sunshine in my life and I take a photo of her anytime I have the chance!

Editing

I brightened her face, added a texture to the background to darken it and remove any distractions.

In my camera bag

I usually carry two camera bodies and two lens, one 70-200mm equivalent for mirrorless Fuji, and the other a 28-70mm. Also a 180/3.5 macro if needed, and a flash.

Feedback

When I photograph children I don’t try to pose them to much, I just let them be and occasionally call their name to get attention. If parents are insistent on trying to get little ones to smile I ask them to stand directly behind me. Mostly I just like candid, relaxed, easy shots.
