Late summer, early fall is when the rutting of the Red Deer starts. The doe's actually start gathering in the traditional rutting area's before the bucks appear. In the Oostvaardersplassen this is the larger reed fields in one of the habitats you can find there..so you do seem them regularly poking their heads up..
