Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken from my home located in the historic town of Lowell. We are a small suburb of Everett WA.

Time

I have some of the most amazing sunrises in my small town. I am located just above the Snohomish river and have a view of Mt. Baker, Mt Rainer. the Cascade Mountains and of course the river. When I wake the sunrises draw me to crab my camera and head out to the back porch or deck. This particular morning which was in the winter months I noticed this unusual glow. So I looked up to see if I could a reason for the light. Here was one explanation: Zodiacal light is a cone of eerie light above the sunrise or sunset point on the horizon. You’ll see it before morning dawn breaks There may be other reasons too

Lighting

The focal point of this photograph was the sky and this pre dawn sky lights. But in order to capture the light so that it draws the viewers eye directly to your focal point, have a darker subject in the shot (the mountains, etc)

Equipment

I believe I this photo was taken with the Olympus 520 and the 50-300mm zoom lens.

Inspiration

I love photographing the light and texture so this one immensely caught my eye.

Editing

No

In my camera bag

Nikon D700 with the main lenses, 70-300mm zoom, 100mm Macro lenses and the 18-550mm . Also a Gorillas tripod, extra batteries and SDHC cards.

Feedback

Every morning grab your coffee and check the sky. You never know what the mysteries of the universe will present that day.
