Built in 1881, the Mary D. Hume sailed the seas of the west coast for nearly a hundred years before she was finally retired in the 1970's. Efforts to turn her into a museum ship ran aground, quite literally, when an accident sunk her into the soft mud of Gold Beach Oregon's harbor. Since then she has slowly succumbed to the harsh elements of the coast.
