Truly a minimalist shot - nothing but what you wanted in the image. Good work!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home studio in Hamilton, ON. Canada. It is actually a combination of 3 separate photos that I took.

Time

Afternoon I think. its in studio.

Lighting

Lighting the balloon is the hardest part. I wanted to make the balloon look very soft and matte, so what you have to do is blow it up and leave it outside in the sun for at least a full day. The background and rope were both shot separately.

Equipment

Sony A7rII, Zeiss 35mm, AB1600 with Pocketwizard Plus IIIs, tethered to MacBook Pro. Pink background from Savage.

Inspiration

This image was actually one of my working images for my previous series Floating Dogs. But it worked on its own.

Editing

Elements were all shot separate, so they can all be lit properly, controlling the shadows.

In my camera bag

Sony A7rII, Zeiss 35mm, AB1600 with Pocketwizard Plus IIIs, tethered to MacBook Pro.

Feedback

Don't try to light the whole thing at once if you want a completely flat look. each element - balloon, rope, background, etc has to be shot and lit on its own.
