Behind The Lens

Location

There is a sunflower field that only grows during one time of the year and the farmers who own it charge a small fee for photographers to come out and shoot here. It is by donation only and the challenge is always trying to get a shot like this without other photographers and their clients in it. Obviously my client is the flowers, while other photographers are shooting photos of people. Apparently, people pay more money than flowers do.

Time

Around 5 pm in the afternoon, still challenging to capture a shot without other clients in the field.

Lighting

Shooting into the sun has always been a challenge for me and some exposure was needed to lighten the flowers.

Equipment

This was a shot I took when I was beginning with a Canon EOS Rebel t5i and the kit lens.

Inspiration

When I started out with my photography business, I never imagined I would have any chance of making any money from it. There are so many people with cameras out there. How am I any different? Then when you look at these beautiful flowers, they all come up and bloom and each one of them matters in this photo. The third flower from the right in the front does not fail to bloom simply because there are others competing for water and sunlight. Each one of them in necessary and the field would not be the same without each one.

Editing

I did a basic edit and had to remove one photographer and client.

In my camera bag

These days I carry a Canon EOS R, a Canon 5d mkii, a 70-200 f/2.8, a Canon 17-40 f/4, a Canon 11-24 f/4, a Laowa 12mm f/2.8, a Canon 35mm f/2, a Canon 50mm f/1.8, and a 85mm f/1.8.

Feedback

Take many photos. Never stop because you think it might not work. Digital images are super lose cost and you can always come back to them later on and try again to edit them and make them work when you grow.
