Each year, humpback whales migrate from the frigid waters of the poles to the warmer waters closer to the equator. These are their birthing and mating grounds. Amorous males engage in practices and rituals to impress the females. In this image, a male is attempting to hide the female he is courting from other males in the vicinity by blowing a screen of bubbles. The tactic failed and soon his game of subterfuge was replaced by one of bang and crash.
