Burano is one of the islands in the Northern Venetian Lagoon, Italy. It's noted as being one of the colorful cities in the world. It's not nearly as big as Venice, but oh so much more peaceful! It's (relatively) off the beaten path because unless you know it's there, you don't know it's there! There's one "street" on the town that is teeming with tourists, locals, shops, restaurants, bars, cafes. Like Venice, travel is by boat or by foot. It only takes a couple of minutes, though, to discover the quieter byways as pictured here.
The different colors of the houses, which today are Burano's most outstanding feature is said at one time to designating the properties. However legend has it that fishermen painted their houses to see them from a long distance when they were far away for fishing. Whatever the reason, the colors are fabulous!
Venice and its Lagoon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kay....this is awesome! I stood on that same bridge and took a photo of that same view.....one of my favorite towns in Italy. This needs to be on your wall!!!
