Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken on the east point of Biloxi, MS, at sunrise. Those are shrimp boats on either side. I'm also a self taught photographer. I have been teaching myself since 1982.

Time

This was shot at sunrise, just before the sun broke the horizon. Be prepared to sit and wait for the moment.

Lighting

Shooting at this time of morning is a waiting process. The only adjustment you cam make is with your iso, fstop and shutter speed. With these you can obtain all types of variations of your image, so experiment with your settings.

Equipment

Nikon D700 w/ a Nikon 80 - 400mm no flash, don't remember what the tripod was.

Inspiration

Here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and all through our state there are so many photo opportunities and scenic spots. I tried to take in as many as I could . We are truly blessed down here to have so many beautiful sunrises and sunset all through the year.

Editing

Probably just lighten the sides of the boats.

In my camera bag

Well that depends on where I was working at the time. I have used twin lens Ricoh flex to Hassi, to Nikon film and digital. Lenses from 18 to 300 2.8, to 400mm 5.6 and 500mm mirror lens. All types of lighting units.

Feedback

Get there early and wait! Watch the sunrise or set unfold. If you have not shot this before you will be surprised at what you will see. Lastly experiment with your settings and make notes. So the next time you can duplicate it or try something new.
