Location
As a NYIP grad some ten years ago while living in the mountains of Colorado, I focused my attentions on the abundant wildlife and exquisite local landscapes. After retiring from the corporate world, my wife and I pursued our goals for world wide travel and I with my passion for photography but this time with more of an eye for street scenes, differing cultures and a wide range of people in their natural settings This is one of a young girl in quite a contemplative, peaceful mood in her “secret garden”. She tells me she often came out here to escape the trappings of a sometimes confusing life, her younger brother and the hectic goings on in daily life!Time
The tranquility of late afternoon on a late summer day.Lighting
I wanted to capture elements of some of the lush surroundings in this small and quiet setting but most importantly her spreading joy at retiring to her “serene” place. The dappling of the late afternoon sun made me reach for my non intrusive camera phone at her invitation to record the scene. The mood, lighting and setting were striking to me.Equipment
I didn’t have my semi-pro camera at the time but didn’t want to miss this girl’s mood so proceeded to record it with my iPhone X.Inspiration
The mood, the tranquil nature of her “secret” garden and dappling of the late afternoon summer sun on the tropical foliage and her hair!Editing
Simply some cropping and very slight enhanced saturation to bring out a bit more of the color and lushness of this tropical setting. In my camera bag
My Canon EOS 5D, Mark III and a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS zoom lens, a fast 50mm fixed 1.4 lens. When not convenient I always have my camera phone.Feedback
I’ve found that when I got engaged more in photography I developed more of an eye for “seeing” things differently and simply got inspired to take shots of memorable and sometimes unusual and settings. Sometimes these scenes were “hiding in plain sight” right before my eyes! My advice, always have a camera of some sort (we almost all bear camera phones on our person)! As pro photographers exclaim when asked what camera to get, “the best camera to have” is the one you’re carrying!
