Location
This was taken at the World Bird Sanctuary at Lone Elk Park near St. Louis, Mo.Time
This was in the mid afternoon in late May, 2014.Lighting
This was outdoors, so there was good natural light somewhat filtered through a forest that fortunately helped to prevent harshness or flare.Equipment
This was handheld using a Canon Rebel XT (350D) and a Canon 70-300mm lens at 180mm on Auto. The stabilization in this lens works very well!Inspiration
There were a number of birds here, so it was very easy to get good shots. This eagle was sitting at just the right place to get a good profile.Editing
Very little processing was required, just a bit of sharpening and contrast adjustment. In my camera bag
At the time I took this photo in 2014, I just had my Rebel XT, the 70-300 lens, my walkaround lens (Tamron 17-50) and a circular polarizer. I've since upgraded to a Canon 5D MkIV and a Tamron 24-70 G2.Feedback
Zoos and wildlife centers like this can offer some very nice conditions for wildlife portraits.
