Behind The Lens

Location

Took this shot in the house. Little one, Lily, was laying down watching TV so I took a few standard shots of her, then I lay down too and held her hand, messed about with the aperture a little and had some fun.

Time

I have a bad memory at the best of times. This was taken around noon probably, on one of my days off from work. We always watch a little TV together when I'm off.

Lighting

Natural light, behind me and to the left are some big patio doors that lead out to our back garden. So lots of great light coming in there.

Equipment

Nikon D3100 and my 40mm f/2.8 Nikon lens. No flash, just the camera and the natural light.

Inspiration

I love taking shots of my Daughter, but after a while they all look the same, no matter how cute she is. I went down to her level and decided to mess with the different settings as shooting on Manual is still something I'm working on mastering! :)

Editing

Turned it into a mono image and added a bit of "clarity" in PS. Just to pop the details, then added the "punch" setting in LR to it too. :)

In my camera bag

Nikon D3100, just bought a D7100!! Nikon 35mm f/1.8. Nikon 40mm f/2.8. Nikon 55-200mm. Sigma 70-300mm. SB-400 External Flash. Wired release remote, cleaning kit. ND 08 Filter from Cokin. Spare batteries and memory cards.

Feedback

Just experiment. Lie down, get to their level and just have fun. It is the perfect time to mess about with settings and see what comes from it. :)
