Location
This photo was taken The Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, New Mexico along route 66 on a crisp, late autumn day. It's usually our rest stop on trips out west.Time
Of the many shots I've taken of the Blue Swallow, this has become my favorite. This shot was taken in the evening around 8 PM. The evening best captures the color of the NEON.Lighting
Only available light was employed. The Neon signage and the incandescent light within the office. The Swallow flashes ON and OFF so timing is important in capturing the bird.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D800, 24-70 Nikkor lens set at 32mm. Settings were f8 @1/25 - ISO 1600. A Manfrotto tripod kept things steady.Inspiration
From this angle, it defines the complete story of travel along Rt. 66. All the elements seemed to fit - The Neon, ThePontiac Chieftan, and the Blue Swallow.Editing
Minimal post-processing was done. Tweaked the clarity, vibrancy, and sharpness. That's it!In my camera bag
On the road I have a Go To bag with the Nikon D800, the workhorse 24-70mm, ND and Polarizer Filters, Remote trigger and Tripod. All other gear is stored in a case used on a as needed basis.Feedback
