Behind The Lens

Location

I was chasing this dragonfly around the edge of a lake near where we live. It was moving like a rocket and in the end I filmed it instead the with the video function on my camera. I then edited the footage to be able to present a still image and this is the result.

Time

23rd June 2018 at 2:07pm in the afternoon.

Lighting

It was a normal warm sunny summers day with lots of dragonfly activity at the location.

Equipment

Canon EOS 1200D with a 75-300mm lens and a rose petal hood. I held the camera in my hand to film this beautiful dragonfly.

Inspiration

I love the strong colours of blue emperor dragonfly and the speed they race around at is awesome.

Editing

I filmed this using the video feature and then captured a still image. It seemed like the easier option in the end as trying to take a photograph and remain in focus at the same time was not easy.

In my camera bag

The camera, although I have now upgraded to a Canon EOS 2000D, a 75-300mm lens, an 18-55mm lens, a wide angle lens and a a Photo-R ND lens

Feedback

Patience is a virtue! I have taken many photos of dragonfly since this one having become more experienced in photographing these fast moving insects. Just be patient and it will happen.
