Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph in an area of Surrey UK known for it's outstanding natural beauty. The woodland area in East Clandon, Surrey UK beside a busy main road ..... the A25 in the Surrey Downs en-route to a place known as "Newlands Corner" an area in the South of England known for it's beauty and also one of the highest points in the South of England. This area is known as the Surrey Downs. This location is also known locally for the incredible displays of Snowdrops in February and Primroses in Mid-April.

Time

I took this towards the late afternoon as the sun was lowering in the sky and casting fantastic shadows through the trees

Lighting

Perfect for the scene and time of day.The sun in a falling position in late afternoon, provides perfect shadow casting for the trees and long shadows across the blooms.

Equipment

I took the photograph using a Canon EOS 350D XT Rebel and a stock Canon 18-55mm lens with a gradient blue filter to accentuate the natural "blues & greens" no flash or tripod was used. [August 2021 ] Now upgraded my camera to a Canon EOS 2000D and keep a 1200D as a spare.

Inspiration

Inspiration comes from the undeniable beauty of one of Great Britain's most captivating of all wild flowers. The bluebell is a protected species in the country and replicates year on year to produce some of the most amazing woodland colour displays you will ever experience.

Editing

No post processing at all apart from making the image slightly smaller to fit the page!

In my camera bag

A Canon EOS camera, I choose one of three that I have on the day. I use a 300D, a 350D XT Rebel and a 400D. I have a selection of lenses, a stock Canon18-55mm, a Canon 80-200mm and a Canon 90-300mm. I also have a selection of coloured filters to screw onto the lens I use if I want a different end result. I also use a flower petal hood to stop side shadows and unwanted reflections. [August 2021 ] Now upgraded my camera to a Canon EOS 2000D and keep a 1200D as a spare.

Feedback

A good quality camera, I use a Canon but other makes are good too. A sample of coloured lenses to capture different colouration effects and a flower petal lens hood. Take the picture from different angles to get different shadow effects. Also try different times of the day, an overhead sun will cast downward sun-rays through the trees which will give a photograph a totally different aspect.
