Although we perceive them as aquatic, actually a lot of newts spend most of the year on land. They return to the ponds from Februari to June to mate and lay eggs. Afterwards they find a sheltered spot somewhere to feed on land and to spend the winter. This little female was just creeping out of my pond, hopefully she found a spot somewhere and is currently snacking on ants and stuff. And prepare herself for winter..
