Location
This photo was taken in Ketchikan AlaskaTime
the photo was taken mid afternoon I had returned to the cruise ship when I saw an eagle fly by so went onto the top deck and there were about 20 or so Bald eagles flying around waiting for the tide to start pushing the salmon into Ketchikan creekLighting
The day was a bit overcast with not too much sun shine which gave a good photo with light blue background.Equipment
this photo was taken with a Canon 70D camera and a Tamron 150-600 telephoto lens held free handInspiration
I was trying to get photos of the Eagles but most were perched in the trees behind ketchikan when I spotted this one flying up the coast and it flew over the ship about 20 mtrs above me I had the camera on fast shutter and took about 10 shots of it but this was the best photo I gotEditing
luckily I didn't need to do any apart from a very small crop and slight adjustment for the lightIn my camera bag
as well as the telephoto lens I also have a 18-70 mm lens a 35-200 lens and one 18mm that has a very low f-stop for taking photos at night otherwise just cables and changers etc Since taking this photo I have added a Sony A7111 along with a kit lens and flash equipment. I now also have added another 15mm lens with a 1.4 F-stop and a fish-eye lens as well which I use for night photography of the Aurora or for photographing the milky way and stars.Feedback
being in the right place at the right time I guess I got very lucky with this photo but having a day with not to much sun shine helped as well otherwise the light would have washed out a fair bit of the detail. A lot of my photography is off the cuff and since this photo I have spent more time looking into being in better positions for photography and so getting better photos
