Nostalgia is a documentary series of black and white photographs shot on 35mm film and digital. This series gives an insight into the life of a group of young children, living in and around a small Kent village. The children are shown exploring and playing in the woods, the banks of the Thames and in a disused quarry and gully.
I’m interested in keeping the traditions alive of playing in and exploring certain locations that are a rich part of the villages history. It is a generational thing that to us whom have grown up in the area, before the housing boom and technology, was our everyday life.
For me, a childhood spent in a village with a rich industrial past was like having the secret garden on my back door but made from concrete, steel, flint and all carved from the chalk cliffs.
All the spaces shown in my project have been a prominent and reoccurring landscape for most of my childhood dreams. The project for me touches upon issues that I find important; loss of the nature and our open spaces which is due to over development of the area and lack of funding for the upkeep of our heritage.
