Location
This photograph was taken in the Netherlands in an area called Friesland which is north east of the city of Amsterdam. This was a country road in Rijs located in Friesland. Friesland is the farming region, full of dairy farms (the famous Holland milk products is from where it is exported to all over the world). The region is full of small water filled canals and also the where the fresh-water lake of IJsselmeer is located. Covering an area of 1100 m2, the IJsselmeer is the biggest lake in Holland. What is special about the lake is that it used to be the Zuiderzee (South Sea) and was closed off by a man-made dyke, the Afsluitdijk. The lake is fed by several rivers, including the Amstel, the Rhine, the Vecht and the IJssel. The IJsselmeer is used for transport and fishing but it is also popular for water sports. And the lake supplies tap water for Groningen and Friesland. The lake itself and the many typically Dutch scenes around the IJsselmeer are well worth a visit. One of the most beautiful regions of Holland!Time
This was taken mid morning. I stayed in a hotel very near this street and was compelled to go shoot it. I really liked the filtered light creating light and shadows on the road.Lighting
Taking this shot in the early morning with the sun filtering through the trees, it created interesting light and shadows cast by the trunk of the trees. Also, the tender light showed off the shimmiring leaves. It was a very foggy morning, but by mid-morning, the sun came out and made this shadowy shot possible.Equipment
Nikon d750; Tamron 24-70/f2.8 lens, just hand-held. Aperture: f/10; ISO: 800; Shutter Speed: 1/320Inspiration
The canopy created by the trees over the country road looked very peaceful and inviting. Inviting enough to stop and phoeograph it as well as walk along the deserted road. You might call it a country road, and the perspective leading to the opening at the end, was very intriguing! I shot it several ways, with symmetry as well as getting the opening of the canopy off-center. I like this perspective and composition the best.Editing
Very little post-processing in Lightroom. The photo did not need much work other than increasing the exposure (I shoot on the darker side) and adjusting the shadows. In my camera bag
I shoot with the 24-70 mm lens quite a bit. I had, on this trip to Europe (which included road trips in a rented car, through Netherlands, of course, but also Austria, Switzerland and Germany), taken a 70-200 mm f2.8, a Nikor 50mm f1.8 and a Rokinon fish eye 12mm f2.8 lens. Normally in the US, these four lenses plus a Tamron 10-24 f3.5-4.5 rounds up all the equipment I have in my bag. In addition, I keep a ND10 filter and a variable filter to use in case I want to do long exposures. Also a shutter release, head light, extra batteries and SD cards, pretty much complete what I take.Feedback
Try various compositions, don't settle for one, if you can help it. Also, try various focal lengths as well as bracket shooting.
