This photo was taken in Waltham Quebec, Canada. It originally had two horses coming out of a shelter. The other horse was white, it was further out of the shelter and fully exposed to the sun... the white horse was cropped out and the left side of the photo was "painted" black...the right side of the horse is natural shadows.Time
Our relatives live on an acreage and we were walking the grounds mid afternoon when we caught the attention of the two horses... they came out to meet us and this photograph was taken while they exited the shelter.Lighting
The natural lighting was perfect as you can see on the left side of the photo... natural shade and the natural sunlight on the horse's face... again the "shadows" on the left side of the horse were "painted" in.. it turned out better than I could have hoped for.Equipment
I took this shot with my Nikon D 60. It was still new to me and was still getting used to it. 1/500 sec. F/5.6 200mm.Inspiration
When I first started taking photos, I was using a Kodak point and shoot... it did really well for me...I upgraded to the Nikon D60 and having a better camera ignited my passion for photography even more. I was shooting a lot of everything around the time this shot was taken.Editing
Absolutely, I cropped out the second horse and "painted" the left side of the photo as to hide the shelter in the background. It's amazing how one can turn an alright photo into something great with some imagination and photoshopping. In my camera bag
The equipment that I take with me is my D60...18-55 and 55-200mm lenses. I really don't have any other at this time but am looking into an upgrade anytime now and would like to add a 50mm and a serious zoom lens.Feedback
I would have to say after the fact and after learning more about photography... pay attention to lighting... play with shutter speed and apeture to get variations on lighting. Also look deeper at your finished photo... the original may not have turned out exactly as you had hoped, however one aspect or portion of the shot may turn out to be a masterpiece!!! Bear in mind cropping down a photo does cut down the size of the photo and could affect printability and the ability to enlarge the photo and still have a clear quality print.
