I had recently moved my father to the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Reserve, La. I was regularly commuting between Baton Rouge and Reserve at various times of the day. This picture was taken on May 14th at 4:26pm CTLighting
I found the early evening light and shadows brought out the deep colors of the trees and the dark water.Equipment
Nikon D5600, ISO 400, f/5.6. 1/100...hand held.Inspiration
During my commute on this day, May 14th, my Dad’s birthday, I found myself thinking about how frail my father had become and remembering his strength during my youth. A man who was the first person to be entered into the US Army Drill Sergeant Hall of Fame, he was awarded the Silver Star and two bronze stars for valor in Vietnam. Daily I drove past the strong and bold cypress trees scattered along the bayou side that runs along the highway. On this day I stopped to admire the trees. What I saw was a picture that not only represented the beauty of Louisiana; but also the reflections that represented the strength of our memories of the men and women who have proudly served in our country.Editing
I used PS Express to highlight the deep colors. In my camera bag

I’ve always loved photography and just recently began concentrating on developing my skill. For me the essence is to capture your moment in time. Louisiana’s landscape offers such unique opportunities...this picture was taken on side of the road; but it could just as easily been in the heart of a cypress swamp. Observe the beauty of where you are and bring it to life for those of us who are not as fortunate to be in your moment. This landscape can be seen throughout south Louisiana. Take the country roads that travel along waterways. Typically little to no movement in the water so you can get deep colored reflections.
