This is a photo of volunteers from Australia's State Emergency Service. They are staging a demonstration in road crash rescue, just one of the many disciplines these volunteers are trained in. Road Crash Rescue is tough, often thankless and often heartbreaking, as much for the volunteers as it is for the families of those who don't make it. Two of the people in this photo had their final qualifying assessment a week after this demonstration, in which both passed with flying colours. A week after that they had their first real job.

I didn't see this photo until I cam to edit it weeks after. It captures one tiny moment in the whole process that can sometimes take hours.
