I took this when I was pet-sitting for a friend. It was a cloudy, wet day and the photo was taken on the back deckTime
This would have been around lunchtime, so 12 or one pmLighting
The flower seemed to generate its own light. The day was dark, stormy and wet, yet I found I did not have to add much light to the flower itself. I accentuated a few highlights from the petals and the water dropsEquipment
It was taken on an iPhone 13Pro. No lens, taken on the portrait settingInspiration
The day was dark and wet and there was this wonderful, yellow flower that said "I don't care how dark this day is, I'm gonna shine anyway." And it did. It was the middle of winter in Australia and this flower seemed to make everything shine. The reflection came off rainwater on a wooden deck and when I first took it, it didn't look like much. But when I looked at it later on an iPad screen, the reflection seemed so clear, as did the beads of water. It was one of those photos that I thought would not look so special, but thankfully, it proved me wrongEditing
There was not much post-processing. I edited the photo in Lightroom. Upped the detail a little, accentuated the highlights and cropped it. I used the linear gradient mask to up the exposure and detail a little in the reflection to match the flowerIn my camera bag

Never delete a photo you think did not turn out before you have a look at it on a larger monitor. There may be a hidden gem in there.
