The photo was taken during a workshop of my photoclub. For the workshop, a studio was built in the club room. Each member was granted some time with Marieke, our lovely and very patient model. I like my photo's to stand out, so when it was my turn I asked her to step out of the studio and follow me to a corridor. There was a brick wall that I wanted to use for a background instead of the backdrop in the club room.Time
Our club meetings are always in the evening, the image was made inside.Lighting
The lighting is what makes this image special. Lighting consisted of one simple flash on a stand. The flash was the only light source, without it the image would be pitch black.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D7100, a SB700 flash on a stand (7 ft) and a 18-55mm 2.8 lens.Inspiration
I wanted to make an image that was different from the ones my fellow photographers were producing in the workshop. I did make some images in the studio but the best pictures I made that evening were this photo and some photo's where I asked her to sit in front of a bar..Editing
I do always a lot of post processing but not with this one. I made the image cooler by adding some blue tones (color balance) and did the usual stuff like sharpening. In my camera bag
I carry my Nikon d7100 on a Carry Speed sling strap, which I consider one of my most important equipment items. I use a heavy, full metal 17-55mm lens and the strap makes it possible to carry it all day. In my bag is normally the sb700 flash and a godox ad200 for some extra (light) power when needed.Feedback
There are often better and simpler options than the standard backdrop. Think out of the box and you'll do well. That is much easier said than done, I know. Looking and enjoying the photos of other great photographers here on Viewbug will train your mind on seeing opportunities when they present themselves.
