Location
I took this photo in Berlin, Germany. It's the well known Brandenburger Gate that became symbol of German unity after the collapse of the wall.Time
We went to see the monument in the morning. The place was then very crowded with people and I could not take the shot I wanted. I went back early evening but then it started to rain. a bit disappointed we walked futher to the Reichstag but then the rain stopped. I hurried back to the Gate and took this picture. Because of the rain there was almost nobody there so that was a big opportunity to focus on the monument.Lighting
The Brandenburger Tor is beautifully lit so it is not very difficult to make some great photo's there. I used a 13s shuttertime.Equipment
I use a Nikon D7100. On this citytrip i used the 18-70mm DX-lens, which was set on 18mm for this photo. I had to use a tripod because of the 13 seconds shuttertime.Inspiration
The Brandenburger Gate depicts the essence of the city, as the Statue of Liberty does or the Eiffel Tower. As a photographer you can't be in this city and leave without at least one great picture of it.Editing
I alway do post processing. For pictures like these i often use DxO optics for its unequalled noise reduction and lightroom or photoshop. In my camera bag
I use a Nikon 7100. My workhorse lense is the fantastic Nikon 17-55mm 2.8. The Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 is always in my bag too and so is the 35mm 1.8 DX. On citytrips I have a small lightweight traveller tripod that I used for this photo too.Feedback
I know it's a hassle when you are on a citytrip whth your family, but try to bring a tripod. These monuments are beautifully lit so anyone with a cellphone is taking nice pictures there too. By using a tripod, however small, you take yours leaps ahead of any Iphone picture.
