Norma “Jacqueline” Peters: USMC Is still a very strong Marine and served actively in US Marine Corps for 7 years. After boot camp, she became a Staff Driver for senior leadership in Del Mar, California and Camp Pendleton where Marines learned amphibious assault tactics. In Del Mar she also served as a Store Manager of the Post Exchange on top of her driving duties.
Jacqueline was later stationed in San Francisco. She was part of the Material Redistribution Center as a staff driver when many of the vehicles were returning from overseas at the end of the war.
Jacqueline shared, that she was very excited on the day she got to meet General George S. Patton. While stationed in San Fransisco her unit was lined up to meet the General. Jacqueline was a whopping 5 feet tall and she said giggling, at just 60 inches the general just gave her a little pat on the head.
While stationed in San Fransisco she lived at the first Women's Reserve Hotel. The hotel offered servicewomen a safe place to live, eat, relax and provided recreation activities right in the heart of downtown.
