This photo was taken at home. This was our sons' new puppy Patches and his favorite stuffed toy. He seemed tired and when he laid down on his side, I placed his toy on his leg and he then hugged it. I am a self-taught photographer who always is on the lookout for that next great pic!Time
It was sometime after 12 in the afternoon. I think it was 2 or 3 pm.Lighting
This photo was taken in the afternoon indoors so lighting was not an issue. I had the curtains closed so the sunlight would not flood the room with a bright light that I thought would ruin the shot.Equipment
This was shot with a Kodak Z710 f/3.2 Exp. time 1/80 sec. ISO-160. I did not use a tripod, some shots there is no time to set up for because your subject could get up and say enough is enough. There was enough lite in the room so no flash was used.Inspiration
My inspiration for taking this photo was that cute puppy dog face and the mental image of him holding his toy. I can't draw a stick figure if my life depended on it, but yet I have artistic yearnings. I can't paint or draw but yet in my mind, I am always seeing what would make a beautiful photo of things I see around me.Editing
I did not have to do any post-processing on this photo. In my camera bag
Because I am really just starting to put my toe in the water and see what is out there professionally for me if anything, I have just the Kodak Z710 point and shoot and a Canon SX10 IS. Both cameras allow me some freedom to change some settings but not as much as I would like. Two sets of new batteries and an extra memory card. A lens cleaning brush also that comes in handy. I sometimes carry my tripod I picked up along the way. I am hoping to upgrade all in the near future to a nice DSLR that gives me more control.Feedback
My advice to you for capturing something similar would be to treat it like the shot will fall apart at any time. So without seeming rushed or nervous, calmly go about your business and get that shot. When it comes to animals and children, they can be a once in a lifetime shot. Good luck but above all else, enjoy what you are doing while you are doing it!
