Location
I took this photo while participating in a 16 day Dory rafting trip along the Colorodo River. I cannot recall the mile marker but I refer to this camp site as the "pink camp" as you are surrounded by varying shades of pink granite rocks.Time
Early morning as the sun was rising. When you travel through the Canyon on a river trip, you quickly let the real world fade away and you reset your body clock to "Canyon time".Lighting
I use natural lighting. As you can see, when this shot was taken, the sun was still making it's way along the Canyon walls towards where I had camped the night before.Equipment
I just used my trusty Canon Powershot camera. I find that it can handle the wear and tear of traveling through the Grand Canyon and its elements and takes a lovely shot. It is also not an expensive piece of equipment to replace if it needs replacing after being broken by rocks, waterlogged by the River or damaged by sand.Inspiration
The rest of the camp was just stirring in the early morning. I am an early riser so I like to explore while waiting for my travelling companions to get ready to face the day. The tide was out exposing a sandbar which lead to a few boulders that the night before had been inaccessible by water. Looking at the placement of the boulders I could not resist climbing up them to take the shot.Editing
No.In my camera bag
Spare batteries and memory cards. I find that these tend to go dead or fill up at the most inopportune times.Feedback
When taking photos, I try to think what would make my photo stand out from all the other photos that have been taking of the same scene. In this case, being early, crossing the sand bar and climbing the boulders gave me a different line of site to the other shots I know were taken later that morning as the tide had started to turn and they did not have the time to explore the area fully before getting back onto the river to journey to the next campsite.
