I shot this one during an air show in Uden, in the Netherlands.Time
It was a wonderful sunny day, the 20th of June. A few little clouds against the deep blue sky, a perfect decorum for the show. It was in the afternoon, 15:33:06 PM when I pulled the trigger.Lighting
Not about the lighting, it was a clear day, nothing unusual,Equipment
Shot with a Nikon D80, handheld, 100 ISO, 1/800 sec with f/5.6, and a 300 mm focal point.Inspiration
The concentration of these pilots, the combination of the amazing speed and roaring sound of those engines, the contrast of the white smoke and then captured in complete stillness, framed against the blue sky. It's the Formula 1 of air traffic, state of the art engineering and professional skills of the pilots which makes this a memorable photograph.Editing
The thing is: I rotated this photo while editing! It originally was shot in landscape, which I usually do, but suddenly I sensed that it was much more powerful in vertical position, because of the slight backward leaning position of the aircrafts. The upright position lead also to the title.In my camera bag
Nowadays: A full frame Nikon D800e (the Beast) and a Tamron 28-300 MM lens, a carbon Manfrotto travel tripod, a couple of sandisk 128GB SD cards and the amazing AI ARSENAL device, which I control with my iPhone X.Feedback
Prepare yourself well, study your environment, take your time to absorb all the conditions you have to take in account before you shoot. Preparation, patience and focus is everything, the shot itself, takes only a fraction of a second. If you return home with good base material, then the fun part starts, to edit until the final artwork is there, and might turn into a masterpiece as well, if you get the recognitiën of your audience.
