The Croce Arcana step is located at 1,669 m asl, and in the XV century maps it is called Arcem Crux, for the reason that, since the hospitale of Ospitale (XI-XIII century) began functioning, there has always been a cross for orientate the travelers in case of bad weather, above all fog.
