Location
The photo was taken in a rest area on the way to Dubrovnik, coming from the south.Time
The photo was taken at about 10 pmLighting
It was a dark and stormy night, a strong wind blew from the sea and the air smelled of ozone: the perfect night to take pictures of lightning!Equipment
In this kind of photo it is essential to use a very stable tripod and a remote shutter release command. For the rest I used my faithful Nikon D800, mounted with an old Nikkor AI lens 24mm f2.8Inspiration
It was a long time that I wanted to take a good picture that portray lightning, and when passing with the car I saw what was preparing (I mean, the storm coming ...), I stopped in the most scenic site and I waited for the right moment.Editing
I just made the conversion in b / n. No HDR or multi-exposures: this is only a photograph taken leaving the shutter open a little longer than usual. This is why many super-photographers criticized my photo: the city lights are overexposed !!In my camera bag
Nikon D800 normal mounting a brand new Tamron 15-30 f2,8, and all my old nikkor lenses from the '70: 24mm f2,8, 50mm f2, 135mm f2,8 and 300mm f4,5. I recently added a GoPro 4, which I'm really enjoying it! A monopod and a tripod. A remote shutter release command. A soft cloth to clean the lens, and various spare batteries for all devices.Feedback
My idea of photography does not foresee too much processing, even in the preparation of my shots. I'll leave it to my instinct. Of course for this kind of photos it should include a little time available and a minimum of basic knowledge. What counts, however, is studying the best positions BEFORE leaving to take pictures: is not enough to photograph lightning, it must also have a suitable contour to be exploited to the fullest.
