I took this photo of myself in my bedroom on a lazy Sunday when I was feeling particularly happy, pretty, and confident.Time
It was late afternoon, the golden hour, when I shot this. The sun was starting to set earlier as the autumn days approached.Lighting
All lighting in this photo was natural. I was facing towards my bedroom window with the sunlight streaming down on me.Equipment
This was taken on an iPhone 8 Plus.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this photo because I wanted to experiment with portrait photography, but didn’t have a model at that moment. The lighting was great, I was feeling confident, so I thought, ‘maybe I can be my own model’. And so I took a self portrait.Editing
I did do some post processing on this photo. I enhanced the saturation and warmth slightly, toned down highlights, and enhanced background blur and contrast. All editing was done on my iPhone.In my camera bag
At the time this photo was taken, I was only using an iPhone 8 Plus for all my photography and editing. Nowadays, I have an iPhone 11 Pro, which I do still use for some mobile photography, but have moved on to a Sony Alpha 6000 for the most part.Feedback
I would advise others to look for moments of natural, good lighting— and if they have the chance, take the opportunity to use it to their advantage. And when it comes to self portraits, take them when you’re feeling the emotion you want to come through in the photo.
