It is late march and the days are getting longer. Even though there is still snow on the ground, spring is well underway which means birds are starting to migrate through. One of the earlier migrants here to the midwest, the American Woodcock, though considered a shorebird, is a ground dwelling bird of forested areas. During spring time, their vocalizations and twittering aerial display can be heard at dusk and after dark as they try to attract a mate and guard a territory.
