A secretive bird of the northern prairie, the Le Conte's Sparrow spends most of its time hidden in the cover of tall grasses where it nests and hunts for food. Its breeding range extends from northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota to the southern end of the Northwest Territories, and from most of Alberta eastward through parts of Quebec. Its winter range extends from southern Missouri down through the southeastern states as well as part of Texas.
